Casa Mater Study

2009 |Santiago, Chile

In this space, decorated in the context of a Casa Mater design show, we sought to shed light on the transition between the past and current day, and the numerous layers that are added to interiors as time passes.

The showing took place inside an old home that was quite deteriorated. Our studio recreated the base layer of this space with the kind of finishing and wood moldings that this type of building may have had at the time of its construction.

Over the reworked walls, we hung old portraits and incorporated an antique marble chimney, all with an aesthetic resembling the English style. Then, we partially covered the room in a second, completely contemporary layer, in turquoise, which creates the experience for the spectator that theyā€™re discovering the original past of the construction through intentional openings.

ā€œWe sought to create a space that would make spectators reflect on the transition that occurs between the old and the new, between past and present day.ā€
